It was a windy day, late winter. Most of the port activity
makes take place on the Manhattan side, but we live along a busy coast;
shipping, passenger liners and the recreational boats of the wealthy. Saw
this Coast Guard ship docked in the slip between the Erie Lackawanna station
and Frank Sinatra Park. The wind was strong enough to whistle. The sweeping gusts rocked the ship
back and forth. The waterfront gives our eyes compelling vistas, inspires
reveries and musings. It’s also an enterprise with many players, where our maritime
military force is required. It’s something that is obvious but we’re usually
oblivious about until a ship sales into port to remind us about all that goes
on so we can reside in cities with a river to view.
