Corner Lagoon

Seventh Street & Jersey Avenue. Water so deep it covers the curb and sidewalk and so wide that you have to go mid-block either north or east – while avoiding traffic – in order not to get feet soaked. I wasn’t wearing galoshes. It’s a rainy day. We haven’t had rain for a couple of weeks. Just showers, periods of heavy rain but not long periods, no thunderstorms, no flash flood warnings, just a normal rainy day in May. Springtime showers. This corner lagoon pops up and it’s not the only corner in town covered by a mini-lake. They leave this off the condo brochures. Infrastructure collapse is not as interesting a story as the new hipster bar in the sixth borough.
