Autumn Convergence

Some say Springtime turns slowly into Autumn. One way of explaining Summer I suppose. I don’t know though. Spring and Autumn, they seem to be such short seasons. Few days are purely Autumn or Spring. Most of the time we say oh this feels like Winter or this feels like Summer and depending on what time of year we say such, the statement is either a premonition or a flashback. Maybe the world is either Summer or Winter; the interim periods, are fleeting, disappearing as soon as they’re noticed. The two big seasons are either slow in leaving or quick in coming on. This afternoon though in the park, in the interim period between Halloween and Thanksgiving of the interim period between Summer and Winter, I felt very Fall. Summer’s grip loosens slow, some stubborn foliage remains, grass still maintains its chlorophyll, and the leaves, a fresh brown, still brittle, not damp and partially decomposed as they will be soon. I think it was the day of the first frost. You felt the chill of Winter seeping into breeze on the tips of ungloved fingers. Some plants have Summer still in retreat; winter swirls in the wind; early November in the Park, Fall is always on the run.
