The sign caught my eye, listing the stores Open For Business During Construction. The fine trees here at Robert Mercado Park were removed in February (previous post) and the stumps were removed in April (previous post). Work has been sporadic during the four months after, but this week activity resumed in stride. I like the contrast of Galleria Hudson—the folks there are very nice and helpful by the way—and Rosario’s, one of our finest bodegas and I’m not sure if it is still open for real or not (or where they just disobeying the sign and closing?). The thing I like about the contrast is that why not have a convenience store and a frame (and art) store side by side? I asked a cop when they plan to replant trees. He replied that they are planning to repave Newark Avenue on September 15th and he seemed to think the trees will be replanted before repaving commences.
